Silicon carbide is a chemical compound commonly used as deoxidizer in electric furnace steelmaking.
Silica and carbon through high heat sintering to form carbide crystal. When add it to gray iron, ductile iron or malleable cast iron, it is easily dissolved, and it makes the carbon and silicon in the form of alloy into the melt.
1. Due to silicon carbide contains carbon and silicon,in the process of smelting, silicon is melted into the molten iron , and most carbon burning.

Low-carbon:C<10% can not make the castings increase carbon
High carbon :C>=23%, can make it. Carbon equivalent is easy to master, thus can add more scrap steel to get ideal casting products
It can be very helpful to use of the SiC inoculant to get the benefit , As the SiC inoculant can refines the crystalline structure, improves the strength ,strengthened toughness ,defending against leakage , thus reduces the rejection rate and the production cost. and the product performance is stable. With the improvement of Mg cored wire technology in production of ductile irons. SiC ,by which can increase carbon, silicon, make the inoculation effect, Using the SiC to replace small or all of FeSi would also be listed in the agenda by many iron plants,because it can not only improve the quality , but also can reduce the cost of production.
In conclusion, the application of silicon carbide in today's iron foundry, is imperative and irreversible.
