The initial cargo consisted of 500 tonnes of manganese ore. Domestic shipments will increase to 7,000 tonnes per month, followed by export operations, initially to South Korea.
Notably, Asia Minerals is the only manganese exporter licensed and authorised by the Indonesian Government.
Asia Minerals is developing a fully integrated manganese business in the resource rich province of West Timor, which hosts some of the world's highest commercial grades of manganese.
At full manganese ore production, the company will produce 100,000 tonnes of manganese per year for the domestic market and 150,000 tonnes per year for export.
In addition, Asia Minerals recently commenced construction of an alloy smelter facility with production planned
during the first quarter of 2015, building up to 128,000 tonnes per year of ferro manganese alloys.
Manganese is an essential and non-substitutable mineral in the steel making process where it acts as a cleansing agent and provides strength and hardness.
